Linking infectious and cardiovascular health to improve early detection and care in East Africa.
Our Specialization in Epidemiological Clinical and Operational Research Methodology (ECORM) is lauching soon.
Learn MoreThe Meta-HIV project is a cross-sectional study exploring the burden and risk factors of metabolic disorders, particularly dyslipidemia, among people living with HIV (PLHIV) on antiretroviral therapy (ART) in Benin. As ART has extended life expectancy, PLHIV increasingly face chronic conditions such as cardiovascular disease, yet local data remain limited. Conducted at CNHU-HKM in Cotonou, the study aims to estimate the prevalence of dyslipidemia and identify biological, therapeutic, and lifestyle factors associated with its development. It draws on clinical assessments and patient interviews to better understand how HIV infection, long-term ART, and everyday exposures contribute to metabolic complications. The findings will support the development of integrated care strategies tailored to PLHIV in West Africa, helping improve early detection, prevention, and management of HIV-related non-communicable diseases.
We are the Principal Investigators of the Meta-HIV project and lead all aspects of its design and implementation. This includes securing funding, protocol development, ethical approvals, and day-to-day coordination of field activities at CNHU-HKM. Our team developed the conceptual model and research tools, and we oversee data collection, data quality assurance, and storage using REDCap. We are responsible for designing and executing the statistical analysis plan, interpreting findings, and preparing policy briefs and peer-reviewed publications. Through this leadership, we aim to generate actionable insights that contribute to improving long-term health outcomes for people living with HIV in Benin and similar contexts.
