Bringing Science to the People

The Research Communication & Community Engagement Center (ReCEC) is where science meets society. We believe that research is only as powerful as the people it reaches. That’s why we specialize in making complex scientific information clear, relatable, and actionable—ensuring communities understand, trust, and benefit from health innovations.

In many African settings, health literacy barriers, misinformation, and historical mistrust can limit public participation in research. ReCEC bridges this gap by developing culturally relevant communication tools and engagement strategies that resonate with local values, languages, and lived experiences.

Our mission is to foster two-way dialogue between researchers and communities—so that research not only informs policy, but also reflects community priorities. Whether we’re simplifying clinical trial information, producing educational media, or organizing town halls, our focus is on inclusion, transparency, and trust.

ReCEC turns research into real-world impact by empowering people with the knowledge they need to make informed decisions about their health and future.

What We Do

  • Multimedia Health Education Tools

We produce engaging videos, infographics, animations, and other visual content that translate complex medical and research information into accessible formats. These tools help bridge health literacy gaps and make critical information more memorable and actionable.

  • Accessible Informed Consent

We design consent processes that are inclusive and understandable for all literacy levels. This includes using visual aids, local languages, and simplified explanations to ensure participants fully understand their rights and the research they are part of—promoting ethical, respectful engagement.

  • Community Engagement Strategies

We lead community-centered outreach programs that build trust and promote meaningful participation in research. From town hall meetings to co-design workshops, we ensure that community voices shape research priorities and that the public feels informed, heard, and included.
